for my husband and the pastor's of FVBA
Father, I thank You that no weapons formed against our pastor's will prosper. Every tongue raised against these shepherds will be cast down. Rumors and gossip will be turned aside. For our pastr's will be still before the Lord and wait on You. Our pastor's will dwell in the shadow of the Most High God and will be delivered from terror, darts of doubt, and diseases (Ps. 91:5-6 ). Set Your angels about our pastor's (Ps. 91:11 ) and no power of the enemy shall harm them (Lk. 10:19 ). Thank God forevermore!

Dan Stovall and family
This is to notify you of the passing of Ruby Stovalllate this afternoon. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church though she has been unable to
participate in church life for the past few years. Ruby, born April 27, 1911, is the mother of Pastor Stovall. Ruby's grandson Jim was at her bedside in the
DeKalb County Home when she went home to be with the Lord. Pastor and Mrs. Stovall will return Friday from
their Colorado vacation. A private memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at the Quiram Funeral
Home after which Ruby's body will be cremated and later buried in Castle Rock, Colorado alongside her husband Myrl and son Jerry. The family has requested no flowers be sent. A memorial in Ruby's name will soon be established.

please pray for Mark and the FVBA pastors
1. Victory Mendota recently affiliated with FVBA. Mendota has a large Hispanic population. They believe that the Lord is leading them to start an Hispanic church. Aurora Emanuel had been praying about sponsoring two church starts for 2008. The Lord had put Mendota on their hearts. Funding for transportation costs of church planting team from Aurora would be helpful. A small subsidy for the church planting pastor would also be nice. Aurora Emanuel has chosen to move forward with this effort despite serious financial difficulties in their church. Emanuel is our largest church—average attendance 350). Many of their people work in the construction business and have been without work.

2. Dekalb/Genoa Hispanic

3. Genoa Anglo

4. Presently we are attempting to rent a church building in Genoa. If this can be arranged, we would start an Anglo church and an Hispanic church in the building. The DOM would serve as church planting pastor for the Anglo church. The core group and support group would be enlisted from other FVBA churches. The Hispanic church plant leadership would be provided by Aurora Emanuel. Rental cost for the church and transportation and subsidy for Aurora Emanuel leadership would be helpful.

5. Belvidere Hispanic

DOM has been preaching at East Park Belvidere at the invitation of Jay Hail. East Park has agreed to sponsor an Hispanic mission and is willing to open their building. Julio Cortes, pastor of Vida Nueva, Elgin, has agreed to serve as church planting pastor. Julio’s son Joel, a recent seminary graduate has also agreed to help. Humberto Garcia of Belvidere has agreed to open his home as a meeting place for Bible Study and core group meeting. Humberto has recently retired and was asking the Lord to help him plant an Hispanic church in Belvidere. Transportation help and a small subsidy would be helpful for Julio.

6. Filipino Mission McHenry FBC--

Filipino Mission of 25 people presently meets at FBC McHenry. Dr. Ruben Raquel, pastor of FBC McHenry, is Filipino himself and established a relationship with the Filipino believers. A small subsidy for the Filipino pastor or help on utility costs would be appreciated.

7. Wonder Lake—

Dr. Ruben Raquel, Pastor of FBC McHenry, wants to start a church in Wonder Lake. This community is experiencing great growth and is near McHenry. Ruben has a young man named Brandon in his church that is called to preach. Ruben and Brandon could share the preaching and leadership development roles. Probably this work will begin in a home, so at this point costs are minimal.

8. Lake Geneva Wisconsin Mission-

Roger Sass, Pastor of FBC Harvard, presently resides in McHenry. A few years ago he bought a mobile home for his daughter and family in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Recently the daughter moved out. Roger and his wife Inga are considering selling their house in McHenry and moving to the home in Lake Geneva. Lake Geneva is actually closer to Harvard than McHenry is. If this happens, Roger would like to start a church in Lake Geneva. One of the members of his church is the former pastor of a house church from this same area in Wisconsin. He would be available to help with the work also. Roger would continue as pastor of Harvard FBC. Help on start up costs would be appreciated.

9. Harvard Hispanic-

A mission team came to FBC Harvard last summer to lead the VBS. They did extensive outreach in the community. Three Hispanic families sent their children to VBS and have made inquiries about an Hispanic church. There is no evangelical Hispanic work in Harvard. The city is approaching 50% Hispanic population. Some of FBC Harvard’s membership is not ready to allow an Hispanic mission to meet in their building, but a large apartment complex (200 units) is located across the street from the church. The complex’s community room is available on Sunday mornings. We believe that one of our Hispanic pastors and churches will step forward to meet this need. Transportation help and funding for a meeting place be needed if we cannot find a home in the community.

10. North Brooke Hispanic.

One of our churches Be-Tel Cicero is located near Midway airport. The Cicero community is predominantly Hispanic and is encircled by an Hispanic population of 300,000 people. Pastor Francisco Orozco has a vision of starting Bible Studies in surrounding communities that would eventually become churches. Several Bible studies have been started. One of those Bible studies that shows potential to develop into a church meets in North Brooke and is led by Moises Ramirez. Transportation help and subsidy would be helpful to Moises and others that are giving oversight to the Bible studies/church plants.

11. Rockford Hispanic

Though Rockford is not located in our Association, one of our pastors, Josue Figueroa has been asked to help begin a church plant there. He has a real passion for church planting. Several years ago he left a good job of 8 years in Chicago to come to Woodstock to plant a church. Since that time he has done everything he could to give full-time to ministry. He, his wife, and 3 children have sacrificed a great deal financially to do the Lord’s work. Presently he is working nights and attempting to carry on pastoral duties during the day. Unless he has medical insurance with his present job, the family is without medical insurance. This is an example of the kind of commitment and sacrifice that our pastors are making. Anything that could be done to help him would be greatly appreciated. His passion is to start churches.

12. Sugar Grove--

Frank Russo, Pastor of Cornerstone Community Baptist Church in North Aurora, has always had a heart for church planting. His vision is to start a church in the Aurora vicinity. He would enlist a his core group from other area churches and begin the church on Sunday afternoon or evening. FVBA churches would be asked to loan members for this work until it could be established. Ginger Creek, a large church in Aurora, pastored by Southern Baptist Charles Stone is a possible partner on this work, also. Start up costs would be needed and a meeting place secured.

Additional Church Planting Needs

We have also attempted to further church planting in our Association by requesting the following MSC volunteers:

13. Multi-housing Ministry/Church Planting Coordinator

A couple living in an apartment complex or mobile home park who would seek to develop a ministry and/or church plant meeting in the Apartment community room. This couple would seek to enlist other couples to do the same in other multi-housing communities.

14. Lay Church Planting Coordinator

An individual who would enlist and coordinate the enlistment of church planting teams.

15. BCM/Church Plant Team Leader for NIU International Students—an individual who would coordinate the a furniture exchange and outreach ministry to incoming international students with the ultimate purpose being to establish a church for international students in Dekalb.

Training and start up costs for Mission Service Corps Volunteers and Ministries would be very helpful. As we seek these volunteer missionaries, some may have income from other sources, but even a small subsidy might make the difference in their being able to come or not. On the NIU International ministry, we could definitely use some financial help.

16. Collegiate and Seminary Church Planting Teams—work with regional staff.

Other church planting efforts include our efforts to develop church planting teams consisting of Judson University students and other area Christian colleges and seminaries.

17. Corporate Chaplain--

Joe MacDonald, a former pastor of one of our FVBA churches serves as a Corporate Chaplain in downtown Chicago. Joe presently has his own business, but is moving toward full-time chaplaincy. Dan Lovin, IBSA Chaplain Consultant, believes that this ministry has tremendous potential for church planting. Most of the business leaders to whom Joe ministers live in the suburbs and many of them are not connected to a church when they are reached with the Gospel. These people are shakers and movers in the business community and have been blessed with financial means.

He will seek to minister and witness to all people regardless of denominational affiliation, but I think the fact that he is Southern Baptist is a real plus. He can direct those who do not have a denominational loyalty. Recently he was telling me about a luncheon scheduled for the Chicago Bar Association. A Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court will be coming to share his testimony at the luncheon. The founder of Fellowes Shredders recently came to know Christ through the witness of one of Joe’s associates. Regardless of category, I would like to see us make some kind of investment in this ministry.

focus
At times we all feel like we are marching to the wrong orders. There seems to be so much negative going on around me right now that it seems to be taking me away from the way that God would have me go. Remember Nehemiah when he was trying to build a building and the people were below faulting his every move, yet he chose to stay focused. Please pray that I can focus my heart on God and not those negative things going on around me.
